Intake & Output

In our normal week here at the South Side congregation we have three regular meeting times. We meet twice on Sundays and once on Wednesday. It is during these times that we assemble, sing songs of praise to God, break bread, lay by in store, pray, and hear instruction from the word. The total time we spend assembling is around 4 hours. Add a bit more time for travelling to and from. What we do here is important. We come for refreshment and encouragement in God. We get together because we are a family. We come for God who made us a family.

What do we do with the other 160 plus hours of our week? Who are we at work, or among family? Who are we when we interact with people in the community, or with people online? Who are we when we are alone? In a word, integrity.

We strive for pure input, the unadulterated and plain doctrine of Jesus Christ spoken and exemplified with love and boldness. Should not our output be just as pure? In a recent sermon here, we were challenged to compare the extent to which we pursue various goals in life to how much we pursue God. Being plain, we could all use a little work.

We have the opportunity to put out into the world the lessons we learn and are reminded of when we are together, as well as the fruit of our private daily bible studies (which we need to be doing). Ask yourself, “What have I put out into the world this month?”

When we nod our heads when listening to a moving sermon or exhortation, or feel the warmth from the heart when we sing aloud psalms and hymns, we need to carry out that fervor in our daily walk as well.
