Go Out Of Your Way
It is often the case in life that when we set out to do anything we have some idea of how it should be done. Perhaps we have a strong sense that there is even a ‘correct’ way or ‘incorrect’ way something can be done. We are usually not the first to take on some new idea, task or mission. As human beings we rely heavily on a pattern that has gone before us, on what has worked before for others.
Much of our interaction as christians with the world can be placed in the category of “Other People” or simply “Relationships”. Christ went out of His way to provide a path of rescue to the lost. An overview of the effort He put in and what He endured may help us understand this.
Jesus left Heaven: Philippians 2:7,8, was Rejected: John 1:10,11; He was slapped: John 18:22, whipped: John 19:1, stripped: Matthew 27:28, falsely accused: Mark 14:56, crucified: Mark 15:24, and lied about for the last 2,000 years: Matthew 28:12-14.
And so, seeing how Christ endured all of this in order to provide the Way to be found, should we not make strong efforts to guide lost souls to Christ?
If for no other reason than out of sheer gratitude for what Jesus gave, we should go out of our way for others. Jesus did.
