Who is in control?

If only we kept life as simple and clear about who is in control as Isaiah 10:15 does -- "Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw exalt itself against him who saws with it? As if a rod could wield itself against those who lift it up, or as if a staff could lift up, as if it were not wood!"

As obvious as these analogies made by the prophet seem, we seem to forget the logic at times today. We try to cut Philippians 4:13 in half to where it just says, "I can do all things," leaving off the most important "through Christ who strengthens me."

We are as foolish as Pontius Pilate in John 19:10-11 where we read, "Then Pilate said to Him, 'Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have the power to crucify You, and power to release You?' Jesus answered, 'You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.' "

Yet, we still disrespect Romans 13:1, which says, "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God."

We have people saying my body, my choice, a fallacy that ignores 1 Corinthians 6:19 saying, "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?"

We act as if we can make it without Jesus, despite Him saying in John 15:5, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in Him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."

Remember who is in control. Don't try to be an ax or a saw without a handler or a branch without a vine.
