INSTRUMENT IN SALVATION

An anonymous author wrote the following many years ago: “When I was a little boy, I read in my schoolbook of a doctor who cured a lame dog. A short while afterwards the dog that had been healed stood at the doctor’s door accompanied by another lame dog; his act apparently saying to the doctor: ‘You cured me, now cure my unfortunate friend.’ If thou has been to the Great Physician, my brother, and felt his healing power, take thy unfortunate brother.’”

Dear Reader, if you had a friend or neighbor dying of a deadly disease, and you knew of a sure cure, would you inform them? Of course you would! So, what about the deadly disease of sin? Will there possibly be those at the Judgment Day who will turn to you and say, in the words of the old song, “When in the better land before the bar we stand, How deeply grieved our souls may be; If any lost one there should cry in deep despair, ‘You never mentioned him to me, You helped me not the light to see; You met me day by day and knew I was astray, Yet never mentioned Him to me.’”

On occasion the Bible uses animals to teach for us, as in John 10:27: “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” Can we learn from a sweet dog that took a friend to be healed?
