What do we know about the church we read about in the Bible?
1. It was built by Jesus (Matt. 16:18).
2. It began after Jesus died (Acts 20:28)
3. Only the Lord can add people to His church (Acts 2:47).
4. Only those who obey the gospel are added (Acts 2:41,47).
5. Only Jesus is the head of His church (Col. 1:18).
6. It wore the name Christ, since it belongs to Him (Rom. 16:16).
7. It is to be the pillar and ground of truth (I Tim. 3:15).
8. It cannot be destroyed (Matt. 16:18-19).
9. It is to only abide in the doctrine of Christ (II Jn. 9).
10. Each local church must be united (I Cor. 1:10).
11. Its mission is to spread the gospel (Eph. 3:10).
12. It must maintain its purity (Acts 5:1-13).
13. They gathered to worship regularly (I Cor. 11:26; Heb. 10:25).
14. Every member is to be valued (1 Cor. 12:12-26)
15. There is only one (Eph. 4:4; 1:22-23).
16. There is one universal church, with many local churches (Matt. 16:18; Phil. 1:1; I Cor. 1:2; Gal. 1:2)
