Marking iniquities
So who spent more money for a Valentines gift, birthday, or "just because" this year -- you or your spouse/significant other?
No, I am not really asking that. Nothing good could come from looking into that. Likewise, we don't want to have a ledger comparing our good deeds for God to our shortcomings and sins. As we read in Psalm 130:3, "If You, lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?"
Our lives would be hopeless stopping at that verse but through Jesus we can have verse 4: "But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared."
Yes through repentance and baptism (proof includes Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, Luke 13:3-5, 1 Peter 3:21), we can look forward to rather than dread eternity. That includes remaining faithful as we see in Matthew 10:22 and Revelation 2:10, and requires our patience. In Psalm 130:5-6 we read, "I wait for the lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning -- yes, more than those who watch for the morning."
As humans we are in the practice of seeing mornings come daily. Our wait for the Lord may need to last into the afternoon or night stages of our lives. The time will come when we have no more mornings. But the Lord will come and will always be.
