Why Should I Be A Christian?

I can’t take credit for this. These are notes from Ken McDaniel’s “Bible Questions and Answers” television show that airs 7:30 a.m. Sundays on CW23.

This isn’t Ken’s own message either but one from God’s word. He has relayed important reasons to be a Christian.

Highlights include:

-- Being able to overcome the devil. James 4:7-8 -- “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

-- Having a good relationship with other Christians. Acts 4:32 -- “Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.

-- To rejoice that sins are washed away through baptism. Acts 8:39 -- “Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.

-- To abide in love. John 15:9-11 quoting Jesus -- “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

-- To enter into joy. Matthew 25:21 -- “His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ ” See also John 14:23-24, 14:15, 15:9-10; First John 4:8, 5:2.

-- To be saved. Luke 19:9-10 -- “And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.’

Also 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 -- “and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

-- To go to heaven. Revelation 7:13-15 -- “Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, ‘Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?’ And I said to him, ‘Sir, you know.’ So he said to me, ‘These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And he who sits on the throne will dwell among them.’

Also James 1:12 -- “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
